Bluefin Tuna The Bluefin Tuna are expected to arrive in mid to late June. Most certainly we will head far south into Mexican waters and the outer banks, but we will be far offshore, so no passport will be required. Recommended trips are 1.5 day, and Multi-Day for the early runs in June. A 50 foot class six pack is needed for this kind of trip. Check out the Nomad, Easter B, and Tail Magnet for starters. If you want to cut down on time or cost, you should opt for the faster, smaller, four pack tuna express boats. The faster four pack boats can scoot you out to the tuna grounds and back in only 12 hours (a full day trip), especially the Erin Anne! Also check out the Arlin F, Dead Eye, and Kraken. Cortez & Tanner Banks It is a long drive but so worth it. Imagine this, you are over 100 miles off the coast, far behind San Clemente Island, flying a kite off the back of the boat, dangling a flying fish right above the mouths of giant bluefin. That's what its like fishing these outer banks. This trip requires at least a 1.5 day trip, and only our larger six packs go there, but it is worth the drive. The fishing is so good at these two close banks because of the bottom topology. Deep, deep water, that suddenly rises to within 5 feet of the surface, in the middle of the ocean, with no land in site. It is a bit wierd to see waves breaking in the middle of the ocean, with land not in sight, but on many days, this is exactly what happens. When you go on one of our overnight trips, you will be fed well, and have VIP sleeping arrangements. Not like a party boat at all. The beds are much bigger on our boats, the food is much better, and you have a private bathroom/shower!

OFFSHORE MEXICO The outer banks or bust! The outer banks far offshore Baja Mexico's coast are teeming with pelagic fish long before San Diego even gets a whiff. If you want to go in May, June, or even early July, heading south is almost always the call. Once the Bluefin cross the border they will be under heavy boat pressure and your chances drop. It is best to beat that pressure by going sooner, and going further south. The optimal duration for this trip is 2.5 to 4 days and you will head as far as 300 miles due south.If you go south, and the tuna are not there, you can go to plan B and chase Dorado, Yellowtail, Sea Bass, and an amazing variety of bottom fish including giant rockfish and huge Ling Cod. You will surely not come home empty handed, with so many species to chase, and plenty of time to do it.

What is the Tuna Triangle? Three coordinates make this. The first, is San Clemente Island. The second is Tanner Bank, and the third is Cortez Bank. Within this triangle you will find some of the biggest, meanest, and elusive bluefin tuna in the world! Big Bluefin or Bust! Behind the island is where the big ones are. It can get rough. Sometimes the trip out there can get a little rough, but the fishing is worth it. Good food, plenty of water, and maybe a beer or two to steady your feet. You will be about 100 miles offshore by now. If the Captain spots tuna before dawn, you can always drop glow in the dark flat falls down there, sometimes it works. Have some coffee, and watch now as the sun clears the horizon. The hunt is on. The bite is good at dawn. Backside of San Clemente is usually where you will start the day. First order of business is to find the Tuna. You can not catch tuna by just "fishing" off the side of the boat, you have to hunt them down. Chase the diving bird...
